A New Way to Support Recovery in Long Beach
Roots Through Recovery is excited to announce that we now offer Recovery Bridge Housing (RBH) — a Medi-Cal benefit that provides safe, supportive housing for individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness while they’re enrolled in outpatient substance use or behavioral health treatment.
This new service helps bridge the gap between residential treatment and independent living, ensuring our clients have the stability they need to stay on track with recovery.
What Is Recovery Bridge Housing?
Recovery Bridge Housing is part of Los Angeles County’s Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) network. It provides short-term housing to people who are actively participating in outpatient or intensive outpatient programs for substance use disorders or co-occurring mental health conditions.
RBH offers residents:
- A safe and structured environment to maintain recovery
- Peer and staff support to stay engaged in treatment
- Case management to help transition to permanent housing
- Continued connection to Roots Through Recovery’s outpatient programs, including therapy, groups, and medication support
This model helps prevent relapse, reduce hospital readmissions, and create a smoother transition into long-term stability.
Why Housing Matters in Recovery
Housing is one of the strongest predictors of success in recovery. Studies show that people who have stable housing while in treatment are more likely to:
- Remain engaged in outpatient programs
- Achieve long-term sobriety
- Experience improved mental and physical health outcomes
- Rebuild relationships and employment stability
For many people, homelessness or unstable housing is one of the biggest barriers to getting better. RBH helps remove that barrier — because recovery is about more than treatment; it’s about rebuilding life.

Who Qualifies for Recovery Bridge Housing?
Eligibility for RBH is determined through the Medi-Cal Substance Use Disorder system (Los Angeles County SAPC). To qualify, individuals must:
- Be enrolled in an outpatient or intensive outpatient treatment program for a substance use or co-occurring disorder
- Be homeless or at risk of homelessness (according to HUD definitions)
- Maintain active engagement in treatment while living in the housing program
If you’re not sure whether you qualify, our admissions team can walk you through the process and help you complete the necessary steps.
How Roots Through Recovery’s RBH Program Works
Here’s what clients can expect from our Recovery Bridge Housing:
- Safe, recovery-focused housing in the Long Beach area
- Connection to outpatient services through Roots — including therapy, case management, and peer support
- Structured recovery environment, including curfews and accountability
- Support from trained staff and peers with lived experience
- Guidance toward permanent housing and other resources
Our goal is to provide a healing environment where people can stabilize, reconnect, and rebuild their lives — one step at a time.
Bridging Treatment and Long-Term Success
Recovery Bridge Housing fills a critical gap in the continuum of care. Many people complete residential treatment and have nowhere stable to go while continuing outpatient services. RBH offers a vital bridge — keeping people connected to treatment, support, and community.
By providing this new Medi-Cal benefit, Roots Through Recovery is expanding access to comprehensive, person-centered care for individuals in Long Beach and throughout Los Angeles County.
